Teachers leave PD sessions full of ideas—but how many of those strategies actually stick?
One of the most common challenges we hear from educators is the gap between learning about best practices and implementing them consistently in the classroom. At Shelly Klein Consulting, we work to bridge that gap by making professional learning sessions hands-on, practical, and job-embedded.
So how do we ensure literacy strategies don’t just fade into the background?
It starts with clarity and modeling. During our sessions, we break down complex literacy concepts—like guided reading, interactive writing, or vocabulary development—into clear, digestible components. Then we show teachers exactly what that looks like with students, using modeling and real-life classroom videos or live demos.
Next comes in-the-moment coaching. Teachers often need a thought partner as they try something new. Whether we’re co-teaching a mini-lesson or giving feedback as they confer with students, our job-embedded coaching allows for real-time adjustments that build teacher confidence and success.
Finally, we encourage reflection and collaboration. No one teaches in isolation, and great instruction is fueled by great conversations. That’s why we build in time for team reflection and planning, helping teachers internalize strategies and adapt them for their students.
When teachers are supported at every step of the process, literacy practices become part of their everyday toolkit—not just ideas on a handout.
